Emergency crews rushed to Fudstock Festival grounds in Cavendish Park, Barrow, with three people injured after a waltzer ride malfunctioned, it has been claimed
A woman fighting for her life and two others requiring hospital treatment were injured after a waltzer ride malfunctioned at a festival, it has been claimed.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene at the Fudstock Festival in Barrow at around 8.30pm on Saturday evening, with two of those injured said to have been flung from the attraction.
The other is reported to have been trapped underneath the ride during the incident.
All patients were taken to Furness General Hospital, with the critical patient since transferred to Royal Preston Hospital, police confirmed this afternoon.
Cumbria Police has not said which ride was involved, though aside from the waltzers there was only several inflatable attractions, according to people who attended.
Taking to Twitter, one eye witness said: “Two people thrown from a ride and one person trapped underneath it.”
Another person, who lives near to the festival ground, said they went into the street after they heard sirens and was told people had been “thrown from a ride”.
The injured man and one woman have since been released from hospital, police said in an update this afternoon.
While the other woman remains critical.
A joint investigation involving HSE and Cumbria Police is being conducted and a cordon remains in place at the scene whilst investigations continue, a force statement added.
