Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau had a close brush with tragedy during his concert in Shanghai. The singer-actor faced not one but two near-miss accidents that left the audience in shock. In one instance, Lau was accompanying a female dancer towards a lift platform. As the dancer descended, Lau mistakenly stepped onto the platform despite it being in motion. The machinery began to lower, posing a grave risk of Lau being dragged down. Miraculously, he swiftly reacted and managed to step back to safety just in time. However, fate had another precarious moment in store for him.
During a performance on a stage suspended approximately 4 meters above the ground, Lau suffered an unexpected slip and found himself kneeling at the edge of the elevated platform. In a heart-stopping sequence, he teetered on the brink, with nearly half of his body hanging perilously over the edge. The situation was reminiscent of the tragic accident involving Hong Kong’s beloved Beyond band’s lead vocalist, Wong Ka Kui, who tragically fell from a 3-meter-high stage while filming a variety show in Japan back in 1993.
The incident involving Lau has drawn comparisons to the Wong Ka-kui tragedy. The shocking incident reminded everyone of the inherent risks faced by performers in live entertainment settings and the importance of stringent safety measures.
