The lead singer of Chinese indie band Ordinary Rock Band has died after her chest was crushed by an electric theater seat during work, according to an announcement from the band.
Jie Huijun, known by her stage name A Zhen, sustained broken ribs and breathing difficulties when a large theater seat mechanism compressed her thoracic cavity on the morning of November 9. Despite more than 10 hours of emergency treatment, she passed away in the early hours of November 10.
The Dalian-based post-punk band later clarified that the incident involved a theater seat, not a car electric seat as some had speculated, warning people to „be wary of those with ulterior motives.“
Ordinary Rock Band, known for incorporating violin instead of traditional synthesizers, released their first album „Bin City Hit Song Anthology“ in late 2022 and had toured over ten Chinese cities in 2023. A Zhen served as the band’s lead vocalist, violinist and contributed to multiple compositions.
