Audience members at Coachella were left stunned after a dancer plunged to the ground during a live performance at the California music festival.
The dancer fell from 20ft up while on rigging during the Saturday show.
Footage of the incident showed the woman twirling around before plunging to the ground while the DJ played their set.
She was trying to move upright when she fell from the height and was seen landing hard on the stage between a pair of speakers.
Onlookers were understandably terrified as witnesses reported hearing many of them screaming in horror.
The dancer had been performing for around five minutes before the fall happened and it’s not known whether she hurt herself while dancing and then fell, or if it was an accident which caused the fall.
After the plunge, the worker could be seen lying motionless on the ground as fellow dancers rushed to her side.
Paramedics were quickly on the scene to treat her while the DJ continued playing the music.
She was later strapped down to a stretcher and carried away.
It’s not know what condition the dancer is in after the huge fall, but she was seen blinking and showing responsiveness to emergency workers.
The incident was not the first dangerous fall in Coachella’s history, after a worker died back in 2019 while putting up a stage for the festival.
The worker was a «lead rigger,» and had been a stagehand for Coachella for twenty years, the festival said, describing him as «a colleague, a friend, a family member.»
A statement from the festival at the time said: «He has been with our team for 20 years in the desert and was doing what he loved.
«He was a hard-working and loving person that cared deeply about his team. As our lead rigger, he was responsible for the countless incredible shows that have been put on at the festival.»
Officials said he fell from a roof while setting up a stage, and had died by the time authorities arrived.
Before that, in 2014 a 24-year-old Oakland woman died after she collapsed from a drug overdose at the festival.
Kimchi Truong was rushed to the hospital after passing out at a taxi stand at the festival, only to die days later.
It’s believed her overdose was caused by a mix of drugs and alcohol.
And in 2008, a 21-year-old festival-goes passed away after being found unresponsive at a private camping area unaffiliated with the official Coachella site.
