The owner of the amusement park that claimed the life of a 19-year-old last August in Halkidiki, northern Greece, has been remanded in custody pending trial after testifying before an investigating magistrate.
His wife and the operator of the ride were released on bail, however, with the latter also required to report regularly to his local police station.
The three defendants had been summoned to testify on felony charges of homicide with possible intent and attempted homicide.
According to reports, the funfair owner denied the charges, describing them as “baseless.” He allegedly questioned the findings an expert’s report, which highlights numerous failures and omissions in the operation of the Crazy Dance ride in seaside village of Pefkochori, and presented an alternative report.
The engineer who certified the ride’s safe operation will testify on Wednesday as he faces charges of complicity in homicide with possible intent.
Last August, the 19-year-old died from massive head injuries after being flung from the spinning-chair ride when his seat detached.
The teen was on a family holiday and had gone on the ride with one of his two brothers who was also injured in the incident.
