Classic FM has reported that the PM’s roadmap out of UK lockdown plans for concert halls and theatres to reopen their doors as soon as May 17th. However, this is only if „cases and hospital admissions continue to fall“.
Yet according to the roadmap, we will have to wait until June 21st for live concerts and music festivals to possibly reopen if everything goes to plan. The Manchester Evening News states that „while festivals aren’t expressly mentioned in the four step plan at present, they are mentioned in the wider roadmap“. They also report that during spring, the „Government will run a scientific Events Research Programme including a series of pilot events, to test events with larger crowd sizes. If the pilots, which will begin in April are positive, the Government hopes to lift restrictions on these events as part of step four in June“.
Capital FM says that that some festivals like Glastonbury have been postponed until 2022, while the Reading & Leeds Festival plans to go ahead with opening in August 2021. Nonetheless, Heart Radio states the PM’s May 17th date for theatres could easily change „depending on how successful the easing of lockdown is, as well as the continued roll out of the vaccine programme“.
